I’m Dr. Raj Balkaran.
Welcome to my personal website.
I’m Scholar of Sanskrit Narrative Literature—Indian mythology, in short. I focus on myths of the Indian Great Goddess and on the Sanskrit Epics. I’m particularly interested in the ethics of war and peace, and what I call the ‘dharmic double-helix’—the Indic interplay between world affirmation and world denial.
As a Public Intellectual, I’m an avid Speaker, Podcaster and Online Educator, with a penchant for integrating intellectual and experiential modes of learning. I teach online courses at the Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies and my own Indian Wisdom School.
I also work with people one-on-one towards achieving their life goals,
and host transformative retreats in stunning global settings.
